Theft Charges Dismissed
Our client, a 24-year-old Salinas woman, was arrested for theft after being accused of shoplifting from a large retailer. According to the store employee she took approximately $300.00 worth of makeup and put it in her purse before walking out the door. Our client allegedly admitted shoplifting to the police. The Monterey County District Attorney charged her with one count of theft.
Our client was previously represented by another private criminal defense attorney, who had recommended that she plead “guilty” to the charged offense. Our client wanted to become a nurse, and her school told her that she could not enroll with a conviction on her record. She hired us to take over the case.
We reviewed the discovery and completed our own investigation. After negotiating with the District Attorney and the judge, we were able to get a great offer to resolve his case. The DA agreed to dismiss her case completely if she completed some community service and attended a “theft offender” class online. Our client's case was dismissed and she is now on her way to becoming a nurse with a clean criminal record!
