A study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that drivers with a breath alcohol content of 0.05% are approximately two times more likely to crash than drivers at zero. At 0.08%, the relative risk of crashing is approximately four times that of drivers at zero. At 0.10%, the risk increases to approximately six times, and at 0.15%, drivers are at least twelve times as likely to crash. There was no increased crash risk at levels below 0.05%.
In most fatal crashes involving alcohol, the only person killed is the drunk driver.
